How We Created Our Family Tree Cake Table

It’s a belated wedding post! (Yay!)  I loved dreaming up and creating the little details of our wedding that made ours uniquely ours, and I have been dying to show our cake table to you guys!
We wanted to have a way to honor and celebrate our grandparents–both living and deceased– in a way that was uplifting and memorable. Our grandparents are important to us; we wanted to make sure that they were still with us on our wedding day.
We asked our families for wedding photos of each set of our grandparents. We also asked our parents for pictures of their weddings. When John’s parents sent me a photo of them cutting their cake, I thought it would be so cool for my parents’ picture to be a cake-cutting one, too. After all, these photos would be adorning our cake table!
We put our parents’ and grandparents’ photographs in black frames and added one of our engagement photos with a white frame in keeping with our color scheme. Add a few flowers, the toss bouquet, and cake knife and server, and our table was complete.
(If you’re wondering about our cake topper, my dad made it! Because John and I met in marching band, he created a topper of us in our college band uniforms.)
It was always our intention to keep the framed photos and use them to begin a family wall in our home. Now that we’re moved into our new apartment, we can begin laying that wall out– and at the center will be the photos from the cake table!
