I need your help.
Seriously need it. But it’s for a good reason, I promise.
For the second year, a high school friend of mine has been spearheading a creative volunteer project she’s dubbed Project Paper Hearts. Kelley has a goal of sending 200 handmade cards to the children of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital this year. Check out her website and photos of some of the valentines.
When I heard of her project, I thought, Hey! We can do this! As a community of people crazy about care packages, I thought we were the perfect fit. And that’s why I need your help.
Here’s what you need to do:
Make the valentine.
Feel free to craft your valentine as creatively as you want. Please remember that the hospital wants you to:
- avoid phrases like “get well soon” or anything that relates to the child’s illness
- avoid religious phrases or imagery
- sign the card only with your first name and without any contact information
Send your card so they are received by Feb. 6.
Mail your valentines to:
Project Paper Hearts
PO Box 331
Annville PA 17003
The valentines will be sent to St. Jude’s on the 7th, so be sure to get them to the mailbox before the 6th.
Show off.
Make sure that you’ve taken some pictures of your valentines and post them to Twitter, IG, and FB. Use the hashtag #projectpaperheartsJMG so everyone can see the flurry of hearts we’ll be sending to children who need a little cheer!
Let me know if you have any questions. And please feel to share this with as many people as you can. I’d love to send a flood of hearts to St. Jude’s from us!

If I make multiple would I be able to put them all into a huge envelope and send them that way? Or does each one need to be sent separately? Thank you!
Hi Miranda– Yes. You absolutely may mail them in a huge envelope! They do not need to be sent separately. Thank you for participating!!
I love this idea! I’ll be joining and getting my girls to help!
Thanks, Alex! :-)
I’m in a nursing class could we help out with this as well?

This is a great idea, and a perfect writing assignment for my students next week! :)
Wonderful! Thank you for participating, Liz!
Will this again be done in 2016? I have a group of kids willing to make cards!

I would also like to know if you are doing this again this year? I am a part of a service sorority that is a big supporter of St. Jude and would love to participate.

My Students made hearts for this project, and to save money, we’re wondering if we can drop off the hearts somewhere instead of mailing them. Would this be possible? Is there a phone number that I could call? I can be reached at Cedar Crest Middle School or through email at [email protected] – Thanks!
Hi Rachel–
I am passing your information on to my friend Kelley. I’m not sure if she has a drop-off point, but I’ll make sure your question gets to her. Thanks!
Thank you so much for the template! My theme this year is sperehuroes and I added a text to them for our TEST – “We are SUPER test takers!” They turned out so cute!
My girl scout troop wants IN!!! Thank you for giving us such a wonderful, meaningful activity!! :)
