In the midst of disaster, it’s easy to feel completely helpless. To be stunned. To feel small.
And in the hours after Hurricane Harvey, I know I felt that way. (Maybe you did, too.)
The truth is, we can all do something. And because the Jo, My Gosh! community is one of the kindest, most supportive communities I know–and one that I am super proud of– I knew that we could do something together.
When I think of military spouses, I think of phones. We use them for everything: To stay in touch with family and friends when we’re far from home, to coordinate with spouses on base, to video chat our partners who are a world away, to document every PCS and every celebration… and some even run their businesses or go to school right from their phones.
We look at our phones A. LOT.
So naturally, you need a fresh look on your phone. (Yes, you totally do!) And we’ve got that fresh look with a little inspiration… and a lot of heart.
I talked to Kara, from Foxtrot and Pennies. She’s a military spouse and amazing graphic designer. Kara donated her time and designs to the fundraiser. (I just need to make sure that everyone knows how wonderful she is.)
Grab a limited-edition, inspirational wallpaper for your phone and help the families of Texas
We are offering two different wallpapers for your phone, each with a moving quote. For a donation of $5, the choice of graphic is yours! (Can’t choose? Make a donation of $8 and get them both!)
Every single, solitary penny of your donation will go to the Texas Diaper Bank. Literally everything you donate will go directly to those who need diapers or incontinence supplies.
The fundraiser will close on Sept. 15, after which I’ll announce the grand total and donate everything that was raised to the Texas Diaper Bank. I’ll take screenshots and post them for transparency and so we can celebrate what we’ve accomplished together.
Here are your gorgeous options
The Texas Diaper Bank
The Texas Diaper Bank is a nonprofit that is currently the only nonprofit in Texas that responds to disasters with diapers, wipes, baby products, and incontinence supplies. With so many people displaced having lost everything, the need for these most basic supplies will continue to rise. You can donate directly to the Texas Diaper Bank and find out more about their work and their mission.
Why the Texas Diaper Bank?
Diapers and incontinence supplies are a basic need that can often be forgotten in the very necessary rush to find food, shelter, and safety immediately following a disaster. I cannot imagine being a parent unable to keep a baby diapered and dry or being a caregiver without incontinence products for an elderly or special needs disaster victim. These products are a needed step in helping families and individuals maintain their dignity and hygienic practices as they begin to rebuild their lives from the floodwaters.
(And let’s not forget that these kinds of supplies are stupidly expensive. For families who have nothing left, it’s one more blow to their budget in an already stressful, maxed-out situation.)
So, what are you waiting for?
If you’ve donated through the Jo, My Gosh! store, you’ll receive an email with a link to the wallpaper. Download it and let me know that you’re sporting it!
Send me a tweet, Facebook me, or tag me on Instagram so we can spread the word and get as many donations for the families of Texas. Let your friends and family know, too! And if you don’t want new wallpaper for your phone, that’s totally cool! Give what you can to the Texas Diaper Bank through their donation page. (I’d still love to know that you did it! :-) )
