Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine that often manifests in children. Kids should have an annual scoliosis screening, but it can often fall by the wayside when changing schools or moving around a lot. There’s often no known cause for the condition, which makes exams and early detection so important for catching and correcting.
The app
SpineScreen was designed by Shriners Hospitals for Children doctors to help in early detection of curved spines. You simply turn the app on and move the phone against the child’s back. The program can detect abnormal curves in the spine and is a free and quick way to monitor spine curvature.
Of course, it’s an app, which means that it can’t definitively diagnose scoliosis. But it can tell you if something is abnormal and if your child should see a doctor.
SpineScreen is a multi-functional tool and can also teach you and your child about the signs of scoliosis and treatment options and provide a calendar for annual screening reminders. Find out more about the app and scoliosis here.
