This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Dollar General. All opinions are 100% mine.

So… you’re scrolling through Facebook and you have a serious case of FOMO.
Your friends and family back home are celebrating the season with gusto. There are party pictures and event invites. There are messages from loved ones reminding you that you’re missed (which is really nice… but can also be homesickness-inducing). There are the holiday concerts that your nieces and nephews are performing at… and that you’re not attending.
It can be rough. But the truth is, in life there are no do-overs. This is the only holiday season you’ll have this year. So let’s make the most of it!
Send out a Facebook event, invite some friends, and get ready to host a party that will get you in the spirit of the season. Need a little help? Don’t worry– here are six last-minute part hacks:

1. Don’t be afraid to shop the best of both worlds

While we all know the Commissary can be crazy before the holidays and on paydays, it can be worth it financially. There are a ton of ways that you can save while shopping at the Commissary. But don’t forget to go off-base, too. A lot of fantastic deals can be found in town. For example, did you know that Dollar General offers a military discount of 11% off on the 11th of every month?

2. Go simple

Hosting a holiday get-together? It doesn’t have to be an extravagant extravaganza! Think simple but festive decorations, food, and gifts. Looking for a centerpiece or for outdoor decor? Check out the base’s thrift store. You never know what will end up there… and the proceeds go to funding philanthropic efforts in the military community.

3. Use military discounts

It doesn’t hurt to ask… so ask away while you’re making your holiday purchases! 10% here and 15% there may not seem like a lot at the time… but it adds up fast, especially when you’re doing a ton of shopping. (And my guess is, you’re doing a ton of shopping!) Don’t forget about Dollar General’s military discount!

4. Get your party supplies all in one place

I don’t know about you, but I love making life a little easier for myself by being as efficient as I can. While you’re working on your holiday party list, make a quick stop at Dollar General. Not only can you find your party supplies (hello, cute plates, cups, napkins, and utensils!), but more and more Dollar Generals now carry wine and beer. With a great selection of beer and wine options at a low price, you’ll be able to grab your favorites (like Barefoot Wines, Miller Coors, and Anheuser-Busch products).

5. Rent from MWR

Did you know you can rent bounce houses and sports equipment from the MWR? If you’re stationed where it’s sunny and warm for Christmas, consider having an outdoor holiday party and enjoying the great weather. And, as a bonus, equipment from the MWR is at a fraction of the price that it would cost off-base.

6. Get creative

Having a bunch of people over? Get creative when it comes to food and entertainment. Ask everyone to bring a dish that is a staple holiday dish back home. Set up a white elephant gift exchange. Instead of stocking a full bar, have a signature cocktail. Add a wine and a beer to the bar, too– and you know where you can quickly pick up those staples (Dollar General!). Dollar General serves up your favorites for less. Have a different idea? Go for it! It will be great. After all, the best part is having your military family around you!
