It’s happening. It’s really happening, you guys. John and I dreamed of our forever home since we married nearly 10 years ago. It’s taken a decade of saving, careful financial planning, and dreaming to be able to purchase and renovate our forever home, which we began about a year ago. And now, we’re getting to the point where construction is over and we’re able to move in. (Insert excited cheer here!) It seems surreal, but here we are. Our long-term planning started with Navy Federal Credit Union while John was active duty in the Navy. We took advantage of financial products offered by Navy Federal, so we could make our money work for us and our future. One of the products we used to help us plan, save, and dream was Navy Federal’s Free Active Duty Checking Account, specifically because of the benefits it offers. First of all, before we get any further, Active Duty Checking is a little bit of a misnomer. Yes, it’s definitely available for folks who are serving in an active duty capacity in the military, but it’s also available for reservists and retired military folks, too.
Now that we’ve got that all cleared up, let’s talk a little bit about Navy Federal’s Free Active Duty Checking Account and the benefits and features that make it a great option for growing your money and your dreams.
1. Direct Deposit
When you sign up for direct deposit with your Active Duty Checking account, your pay is available in your account a full business day before the posting date. One day might not seem like a big deal, but this benefit gets you your money just a little earlier, which means you have an extra day to do with your money what you wish—whether that’s saving or spending it. And it means you can skip the pay day crowds at the Commissary, too! (I’m mostly joking… but seriously. Skipping those crowds is a benefit in itself!)
2. Debit Card Protections
When you open Active Duty Checking, you’ll also receive a Navy Federal Debit Card that offers tons of protection for you, your money, and your account. That includes…
- Zero Liability, which means you aren’t on the hook for unauthorized purchases
- 24/7 fraud monitoring, so you don’t have to constantly worry about someone else using your money
- Freeze/Unfreeze mode to ensure that you can keep your checking account safe in case you lose your debit card
3. Free Checks
Little things add up. One of those things? Not having to purchase paper checks. Navy Federal offers free traditional name-only checks with all checking accounts, including Active Duty Checking. (And you can order online, so that’s another win.)
4. Other Perks
Speaking of perks that add up into big things, they have quite a few of those when it comes to Active Duty Checking. The biggest (at least in my opinion) is the ATM fee rebate of up to $240 a year. That’s $240 you don’t have to spend accessing your money. There’s also no minimum balance required for setting up an Active Duty Checking account and no monthly service fee, either. Of course, Active Duty Checking isn’t the only product that Navy Federal offers. There are plenty of services and products to match your lifestyle, needs, plans, and dreams. That selection, coupled with their fantastic customer service and easy access to your accounts no matter where you are, makes Navy Federal a great choice for your short-term and long-term goals.
