I received a gift card in exchange for this blog post. As always, all opinions and work are mine.
There’s nothing–nothing–like relaxing by the pool or in the air conditioning when it’s miserably hot and humid out. (Those of you who have been stationed in the south east know exactly what I’m talking about!)
Even here in the mid-Atlantic, temperatures just aren’t… pretty. But that’s to be expected. It’s July. And summer is just starting to heat up.
And so is this awesome opportunity from Macy’s.
From June 28 to July 8, when you donate $3 to support America’s military community, Macy’s will thank you with a special 25% off pass. You can donate online–just add the donation to your online shopping bag– or at your local Macy’s brick-and-mortar. The coupon can be used in the store or online (so even if you don’t have a Macy’s nearby, you can participate!).
100% of your $3 donation will go to supporting three military community non-profits: Team Rubicon, Bunker Labs, and Blue Star Families.
That’s pretty cool, right?
Let’s talk about some of the other ways you can be cool and stay cool this week, while supporting military families.
1. Go shopping.
When it’s super hot, pack the kids up (or just yourself), and hit the mall. You know they keep it at igloo temperatures all year long, so use that to your advantage during a heat wave. There are plenty of things to check out. And you can treat the kids to ice cream or lunch at the food court (remember when food courts were exciting when you were a kid?). Of course, you can always head over to Macy’s and take advantage of that sweet donation opportunity!
2. Think cool.
This summer, women’s fashion is all about flowy, beautiful long lines and fabrics that are breezy. I picked up a gorgeous long, 70’s inspired dress from Nine West for a wedding John and I are heading to in August. The fabric is breathable and just feels super lovely to wear. (And I got 25% off with my Big Give Back pass, sooo… win, win, win, win, win. All the wins.)
3. Go swimming.
Whether it’s the pool on base, one in your apartment complex, the off-base community pool, or your very own private MWR beach, summer is made for swimming. Outfit the family in bathing suits–which are on sale at Macy’s and you can use that Big Give Back pass, too!– and then hit whatever body of water you can get yourself to.
4. Watch fireworks.
If the weather is looking stormy or you’re just not feeling like sweating outside, turn the AC up and watch Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks on NBC, starting at 8 PM EDT. You’ll get an awesome seat to stellar fireworks and you may just hear a shout-out to the military community on national TV, too.
5. Enter a huge giveaway!
To celebrate Macy’s The Big Give Back, Blue Star Families is giving away 55 (yes, that’s 55, it’s not a typo!) $100 Macy’s gift cards. And you can enter RIGHT NOW:
