Living the military life can be a stressful but meaningful journey.

No matter what season of life you’re experiencing in the military community– basic training, deployment, PCSing, promotions, transitioning out, retiring, or something else, you might be feeling confused, joyful, tired, burnt-out, excited, or another feeling. But no matter where you are or what military branch of service– Navy and Marines, Coast Guard, Army, Air Force, Space Force, National Guard, or Reserves– you might be in need of encouragement and inspiration. Regardless of whether your loved one is a sailor, airman, soldier, Marine, or guardian, these Bible verses are applicable to your life of service and sacrifice.

These 75 verses come from the Christian Bible, both Old and New Testaments. They were chosen for this list because they speak to military families in need of inspiration, strength, and meaning through scripture. Use them at your discretion and need– all at once or one at a time. There are so many ways to do so, but here are a few ways to get you started:

  • Include a verse or two in Open When letters, prepared before deployment.
  • Write a inspiring Bible verse on a post-it note and put it somewhere you’ll see it daily.
  • Write a verse on a note and slip it into the lunch of a spouse or child.
  • Create inspiration by writing a Bible verse on a mirror or other high-traffic in your home.
  • Create a piece of family art using one or more inspiring Bible verses in this list and then display that piece of communal art in your home.
  • Take a blank journal and one inspirational Bible verse on each page for future reflection.
  • Commit to reflecting on and writing one inspiring Bible verse a day or a week.
  • Write each Bible verse that inspires you on a slip of paper and put them in a jar. Pull one out and read it during a meal, either with or without the rest of the family, depending on your preference.
